Monte Verde is an archaeological site in southern Chile, located near Puerto Montt, Southern Chile, which has been dated to as early as 18,500 BP. Monteverde is home to one of the rarest habitats on Earth, the cloud forest, and an astounding variety of flora and fauna.
Situated at 4,662 ft above sea level, Monteverde, Costa Rica is a lot like the United States’ Pacific Northwest region evergreen due to the precipitation and moisture filled clouds which hover over the horizon on an almost daily basis. Monteverde’s cloud forests are the byproduct of fog tangling amongst the leaves and branches of the forest canopy. When these water-based clouds come into contact with solid plant material, the plant absorbs what it needs and the remaining water condenses and drips down layer by layer, organism by organism until it reaches the forest floor.
Climate: Resting roughly at 1,400 metres above sea level, Monteverde is misty, humid, and windy, with a mean annual temperature of 18 °C. Annual rainfall averages around 3,000 millimetres. Humidity oscillates between 74% and 97%
